Ludhiana, July 15
Armed assailants entered the Emergency ward of the Civil Hospital and killed a 15-year-old boy, Shavan Kumar, last night. The victim, alongwith his brother, had come for a medical examination after the duo had a fight with the assailants.
The victim’s brother, Sumit, was also present in the Emergency. His finger got chopped off in the attack. The assailants also smashed glasses of windows and doors, and damaged medical equipment of the ward, which led to panic in the hospital.
Shavan and Sumit had an altercation with some youths at EWS Colony in which both suffered injuries. The duo had come to the Civil Hospital for a medical examination.
Sumit said the assailants brutally attacked Shavan with swords and other sharp weapons. Despite a police post situated near the Emergency, cops could not prevent the attack.
Doctors were in panic and asked the authorities to arrest the suspects and ensure the presence of cops in the hospital to prevent such incidents in future.
ADCP (1) Rupinder Kaur Sran and ACP Ramandeep Bhullar said today they had identified seven assailants, of whom two, Sahil Birla and Abhishek Vidlan, alias Khechu, both residents of EWS Colony, had been arrested. The five assailants who were at large had been identified as Vishal, Ankur, Mannu, Vikas and Sahil, also residents of EWS Colony. Sran said the victim had old enmity with the assailants. The police have registered a murder case and have also added a charge of damaging public property to it.
