Azad Hind Fauj freedom fighter passes away in Rahon

Nawanshahr, April 18

Tara Singh Minhas, a 95-year-old freedom fighter from Rahon who died on Sunday night was cremated with full honours on Monday amidst hundreds of mourners and sympathisers who reached here to pay homage to the departed soul.

The cremation was attended by officials of the district administration, including SDM Nawanshahr Baljinder Singh Dhillon, AAP senior leader Lalit Mohan Pathak, DSP Davinder Singh and others.

Minhas’s son Amarjeet Singh Minhas lit the pyre after formal rituals.

Minhas, who had passed away due to prolonged illness, was a veteran freedom fighter associated with Azad Hind Fauj, also known as Indian National Army. He was a close associate of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose who had formed INA in 1942. A contingent of Punjab Police gave salute to the departed soul at the crematorium.

SDM Baljinder Singh Dhillon also laid down wreath on the mortal remains of Minhas and consoled the bereaved family members. He said it was unfortunate that the nation had lost an illustrious son who had rendered valuable service to the motherland during the national freedom struggle. He said the entire nation was indebted to this great soul for his remarkable service to the country.
