Muktsar, February 20
Irate over the poor performance of the BJP in the municipal council elections, the saffron party’s Muktsar block president today resigned from his post. He said the state party leadership forced them to field candidates, but nobody came for canvassing.
“I am angered and surprised that a number of BJP candidates got less than 20 votes in Muktsar town. Thus on moral grounds, I have resigned from the party. The party high command is to be blamed for this shameful defeat. When the senior leaders were anticipating poor results, they should have boycotted the election. Now, we are unable to even face the public. Everyone has seen the real picture of the BJP,” said Tarsem Goyal, after resigning from the post of BJP’s Muktsar block president.
He said, “Of the total 21 candidates fielded in 31 municipal wards of Muktsar town, the security deposit of 18 candidates has been forfeited. Further, just one BJP candidate has won in the entire Muktsar district.”
He said farmers gheraoed him twice before the election, but nobody came in his support. On this, Rajesh Pathela Gora, president, BJP, Muktsar district, said, “Tarsem was willing to resign even before the elections. Now, I have got his resignation. In comparison to some other districts, we have performed better here.”
