Chandigarh, April 15
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Vijay Singla today announced that health melas would be organised across the state from April 18.
“The state has a dual burden of both communicable and non-communicable diseases and many of these can be prevented by early diagnosis, providing health education, timely referral and management,” he said, adding lack of awareness and poor health were found to be the major underlying causes of many diseases.
Dr Singla said early diagnosis and prevention could significantly reduce the rate of morbidity and preventable mortality. Melas will be held at the block level where information on various diseases and their preventive measures will be provided along with other healthcare services.
He said these melas would prove to be important for creating awareness about different schemes and programmes of the government. —
