Chandigarh, February 16
Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has convened a Cabinet meeting on February 19 to decided upon the schedule of the Budget session, which will be held in March.
Take up contract farming act in house
I will request the CM to discuss the Contract Farming Act, 2013, during the Budget session to expose the SAD and BJP. If need be, the Act should be repealed. — Sunil Jakhar, PPCC President
A senior government functionary said though the Budget session had been planned from March 1 to March 10, the final decision would be taken by the Cabinet. Being the last Budget for the Congress government that would be facing the state Assembly polls early next year, a lot of announcement related to unfulfilled promises made in the 2017 Assembly elections and fresh populist measures are expected to be made.
With the farmers’ agitation against the farm laws still continuing, the Congress government will again bring the state amendment Bills to negate the central Acts as the Governor had failed to send the earlier Bills to the President.
In a special session held in October last year, the government has passed the amendment Bills — Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Special Provisions and Punjab Amendment Bill, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services (Special Provisions and Punjab Amendment Bill, and Essential Commodities (Special Provisions and Punjab Amendment) Bill. But these have not been forwarded to the President. — TNS
