Campaign against single-use plastic from August 5

Chandigarh, August 1

To sensitise people against single-use plastic for saving the environment, a state-level mass awareness campaign led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will be launched on August 5.

Environment Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said the awareness function would be held in Dhuri and it would be presided over by the Chief Minister. Various stakeholders will be invited to the function and made aware of the ban on polythene and single-use plastic. He further added that Mann would distribute jute bags to residents of Dhuri and urge them to shun the use of these products.

The minister further said similar functions would be held in the other 22 districts of the state simultaneously, where ministers, MPs, MLAs and Deputy Commissioners will interact with the common people and inform them about the ban. He said that plastic waste is non-degradable and can exist in the environment for hundreds of years and in water for even thousands of years.
