Amritsar, December 9
With the suspension of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM)-led agitation after the Centre agreed to its demands, the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee termed it a positive development, but said a ‘wait-and-watch’ policy should
still be adopted till the final pact with the government was executed.
The SKM had declared to mark December 11 as the victory day for farmers and would start vacating Delhi borders the same day. Sarwan Singh Pandher, state general secretary of the committee, said though it was a victory, he was sceptical about certain issues that remained unanswered.
Consensus on power bill pending
Consensus is yet to be reached on the two key issues of guaranteed procurement on MSP and the Electricity Amendment Bill 2021. —Sarwan Pandher, Kisan mazdoor sangharsh committee
“The scrapping of FIRs registered against farm leaders during the course of the agitation, compensation to the kin of the deceased farmers, giving immunity from criminal liability in stubble burning were welcome and clear steps. Yet, consensus is yet to be reached on the two key issues of guaranteed procurement on MSP and the Electricity Amendment Bill 2021. A panel consisting of the Centre and state governments, farmers’ representatives and farm experts will be there to take a final call on these issues,” he said.
