The maiden meeting between CM Charanjit Channi and his Rajasthan counterpart Ashok Gehlot this afternoon was cancelled following outrage over farmers’ killings at Lakhimpur Kheri.
Sources said Channi’s helicopter was to land at Jaipur around 11 am and Gehlot had reportedly invited some Cabinet members for lunch with his Punjab counterpart. They were expected to discuss bilateral issues, including those related to the canal water. But the meeting was cancelled due to the aftermath of the UP incident.
The Kisan Sangharsh Samiti said the CMs were expected to take up long-pending issues of renovating the Ferozepur-Rajasthan feeder canal, maintenance of Ganga canal to check about 400 cusecs of water losses between Ferozepur and Sriganganagar. — OC
