Bathinda, July 12
The Vigilance Bureau today arrested Varinder Singh, posted at the Bathinda Civil Hospital, for allegedly extorting money from gullible people in the name of providing jobs.
The VB spokesperson said Nirgun Sargun Gyata Singh, a resident of Bahadurgarh Jandian village, had complained against Varinder on the anti-graft helpline. The spokesperson said Varinder had taken Rs 1.5 lakh (total Rs 3 lakh) in two instalments from the complainant.
A case under Section 420 of the IPC and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered. — TNS
