Conspiracy to kill Hindu priest: NIA files chargesheet against four in Mohali special court

New Delhi, July 5

The anti-terror federal probe agency NIA today said that it has filed a chargesheet before a special Mohali court against four accused persons in the case relating to conspiracy of killing Hindu priest Kamaldeep Sharma by operatives of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) in Jalandhar in January 2021.

The NIA in its chargesheet said the investigation in the case revealed that the entire conspiracy was hatched by accused Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh and Hardeep Singh Nijjar, both based in Canada, to disturb peace and disrupt the communal harmony in Punjab by killing the Hindu priest.

The arrested accused Kamaljeet Sharma and Ram Singh alias Sona had shot at the victim Kamaldeep Sharma, on the directions of Canada-based Arshdeep Singh, it alleged.

Those who have been named in chargesheet include Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a resident of Jalandhar, but presently residing at Surrey, Canada; Arshdeep Singh, a resident of Moga; Kamaljeet Sharma, a resident of Moga; and Ram Singh, a resident of Ferozepur.

All four accused have been chargesheeted under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The NIA in a statement said the case pertains to attack on Kamaldeep Sharma at Bhar Singh Pura village, Phillaur, Jalandhar district by accused Kamaljeet Sharma and Ram Singh on the directions of Arshdeep Singh and Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The case was initially registered by Punjab Police on January 31, 2021 and the NIA took over the probe in the case on October 8, 2021, the agency said, adding that further investigations are in progress.
