Accused of murder, a policeman undergoing treatment at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot escaped from police custody in the wee hours today, the police said. Three policemen have been suspended on the charge of the dereliction of duty.
Angrej Singh, an employee in the Punjab Police, is an accused in a murder case registered at the Jaito police station in 2020. As per information, Angrej, lodged in the Central Jail here for about two years, complained of stomach ache on Monday evening and he was shifted to the medical college under the custody and supervision of three policemen.
At 4.18 am today, when no policeman was on duty to keep an eye on Angrej in the hospital, he managed to flee. His movements were recorded in the CCTVs installed in the hospital. At 4.25 am, when the three policemen returned on duty and found him missing, they began searching for him, but failed to trace him.
