Cotton farmers plough fields

Muktsar, July 29

Despite rain, the whitefly attack on cotton crop has not subsided and farmers are still ploughing their cotton crop in some parts of Muktsar district.

For instance, some farmers at Abulkhurana village have ploughed their cotton crop on 40 acres in just two days. They claimed the leaves were turning black and the plants were not attaining the required height too.

Farmers Kirpal Singh, Harvinder Singh, Meena Singh and some others said as of now, cotton crop in 60 acres has been ploughed in their village.

Harman Bhullar, agriculture officer, said there was no pink bollworm on the cotton crop, but whitefly is still there. “The attack of whitefly is just because the area under moong has increased,” he said. — TNS
