Having thrice elected Inderbir Singh Bolaria from Amritsar South constituency, residents this time elected Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjer with a thumping margin of 27,503 votes. It was Dr Nijjer’s second attempt and he had secured 22,658 votes in the 2017 Assembly elections when he was defeated by Congress candidate Bolaria.
Will end drug menace

A successful radiologist and businessman, Dr Nijjer has stakes in a diagnostics and scanning centre, one of the foremost successful medical ventures in the city.
Dr Nijjer completed his MD (radio diagnostics) from Government Medical College here in 1988. Associated with the party since its launch in Punjab, Dr Nijjer stated AAP is the change which people needed.
He lamented for decades people have been hoping for the governments’ to ensure better civic amenities but instead their lives were made miserable with new problems as drug addiction.
Dr Nijjer said that his foremost priorities would be to end drug meance in the constituency and provide better cleanliness and hygiene conditions. He also reiterated his commitment towards finding a solution to the issue of Bhagtawala garbage dump for which people had held prolonged protests in the past.
Dr Nijjer said his objective would be to end political interference in policing, education, health and general administration so that people are able to get services without any sifarish. Dr Nijjer has already held meetings with the municipal corporation officials over the problems regarding sanitation faced in his constituency.
