Faridkot, December 14
A special investigation team (SIT) of the Punjab Police, led by an IGP-rank officer, reached Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail today to grill Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for his alleged role in three sacrilege incidents. The team members stayed in the jail for about six hours to question the dera head.
However, like the last time when the SIT had visited the jail on November 8, Ram Rahim remained tightlipped and “highly evasive”.
The SIT reached the jail today five days after it questioned a senior functionary of the Dera Sacha Sauda at Sirsa. Earlier, during his questioning about the sacrilege incidents which were allegedly planned at the dera headquarters in Sirsa in 2015, the dera head claimed he had nothing to do with any planning, decision-making or meetings at the dera as he was limited to holding ‘satsang’ to propagate the dera’s ideology.
The questioning today remained inconsequential as the dera head was highly evasive about most of the questions, said insiders in the SIT. The SIT will present its report about the questioning of the dera head in the High Court. Keeping in view the evasive attitude of the dera head, the SIT will try to make out a case for custodial interrogation for not participating in the investigation and not cooperating to take the case to a logical conclusion, the insiders claimed. — TNS
