Amargarh constituency voters believe the raising of questions over the working of the Punjab Government by their Congress MLA Surjit Dhiman has delayed development of the area. Presently, developmental works are going on but many believe these should have been done earlier.
“Since our MLA repeatedly targeted his own government over the failure to fulfil poll promises, our constituency did not get required help from the state government. We have to go to Sangrur for basic health facilities,” said Surjit Singh, an elderly.
Many areas of the constituency are without proper roads, sewerage, water supply lines and health facilities. Since developmental works are still going on, many suspect the use of poor quality material and have been demanding proper quality check by government authorities before the release of payment.
“The constituency has witnessed overall development and there has been never any delay on my part in raising the issues of my area with the Punjab Government. All 120 panchayats and urban areas have got the required funds,” said MLA Dhiman.
Past trend
Earlier, Amargarh was part of the Dhuri constituency. It was carved out in 2012. During the 2012 elections, the SAD won the seat while in the last Assembly elections, voters elected the Congress candidate.
