Faridkot: Asst Jail Supdt arrested for supplying drugs

An Assistant Jail Superintendent, who allegedly supplied drugs inside the prison premises here, has been arrested, the police said today. The official was reportedly caught with a new mobile phone and eight small packets, containing 78 gm of heroin. He manhandled the wardens in his bid to escape, but was apprehended.
The accused, identified as Binny Taank (batch 2016), has been booked under Section 21B of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Sections 353 and 186 of the IPC and Sections 42 and 52A of the Prisons Act.
His interrogation revealed that he had allegedly supplied contraband inside Tihar Jail. The police have taken the help of narcotics team for the preliminary identification of the seized drugs.
Later, the police also recovered Rs 67,000 in cash and three new mobile phones from the car of the accused. Earlier, 1,064 of 2,333 inmates in the jail had failed the dope test conducted by the Health Department.
