Fatehgarh Sahib, January 6
The district reported only two Covid cases on January 1, which rose to 52 on Wednesday and 78 on Thursday, taking the tally of positive cases to 192 and total cases to 9,110. The positive rate, too, has jumped to 3 per cent in just a few days.
District immunization officer Dr Rajesh, too, has tested positive and has isolated himself. Dr Dipti Sharma, in charge of immunisation, said the Health Department was vigilant about the rising number of cases and people were being told to get both doses of vaccine.
She said apprehending threat to life, people had now started thronging hospitals to get jabbed. “In the Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Hospital, long queues are being witnessed and people without masks are being provided with one,” she said, adding that people had become a little careless and even today only a few came forward to get tested, whereas the department had made elaborate arrangements for testing and vaccination. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur held a meeting of district health officials and issued directions to make all arrangements. She urged them to intensify vaccination and achieve 100 per cent vaccination goal soon.
