In a suspected honour killing case, the bodies of a minor couple, both aged 17, were found hanging from a tree near a canal close to Suba Jadid village, around 5 km away from the district headquarter, on Monday.
As per information, a passerby noticed the bodies hanging from a tree around 6.30 am on Monday, following which he raised an alarm and informed the police. Later, senior police officials, including DSP (Sadar) Satvinder Singh, reached the spot to take stock of the situation. The bodies were later sent to the Civil Hospital for the post-mortem.
The brother and mother of the deceased boy alleged that both of them had allegedly been killed by the girl’s family members and the bodies were hanged to make it look like suicide.
“Both of them were in love and the families were aware of it. The girl’s family had even promised that their marriage will take place after two years,” the boy’s mother said.
She further said her son left the house at 10 pm on Sunday, saying that he was going to meet the girl’s family. “However, he didn’t return and in the morning, we were informed about the bodies by the police,” the mother added.
“We demand that the police should immediately arrest the accused,” the mother added.
Meanwhile, the DSP said the police were investigating the matter. However, no FIR was registered till the filing of this report.
