Ferozepur: A farmer belonging to Nathu Singh Wala village ended his life by consuming an insecticide. The deceased has been identified as Rashpal Singh (56). As per information, Rashpal was under stress due to the debt of Rs 12-15 lakh on him. “He had even sold his land, but still was not able to repay the debt, due to which he was under stress,” said Satnam Singh, one of the relatives of Rashpal. He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters. OC
Powerlifter clinches bronze
Bathinda: City boy Pushp Sharma has won a bronze medal in the National Sub-Junior Powerlifting Championship held in Hyderabad recently. Pushp, a Class XII student of Shaheed Sipahi Sandeep Singh Senior Secondary School, Bathinda, has won the bronze by lifting 522 kg. He received a rousing welcome on reaching the school on Monday. 4 weapons seized, two held
Sangrur: The Crime Investigation Agency, Malerkotla, has arrested two persons and seized four weapons with 14 live cartridges from them. Malerkotla SP (Detective) Anil Kumar said two persons, who were on a motorcycle, got scared after seeing the police. One person tried to flee after leaving the motorcycle while other tried to take a turn. But pistols fell on the road. Both of them were arrested. A case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered. tns
2,500 litres of ‘lahan’ seized
Fazilka: About 150 police personnel led by five SHOs of the Jalalabad subdivision conducted a raid at Mahalm village, which is notorious for distillation of illegal country-made liquor, popularly known as ‘lahan’, on Tuesday. Police sources say
35 drums containing about 2,500 litres of ‘lahan’ have been seized from the pond of the village. The seized ‘lahan’ was destroyed on the spot.
