Ferozepur, July 13
Thousands of people from various walks of life today bid adieu to Sepoy Kuldeep Singh of 15 Punjab Battalion, who died on duty near India-China border on July 10. His body was cremated with military honours at his native Lohke Kalan village in Zira subdivision today.
Cabinet Minister Fauja Singh Sarari, Zira MLA Naresh Kataria, along with senior officials from the district administration and Army, attended the cremation. Sarari announced a financial assistance of Rs 1 crore as ex gratia on behalf of the state government to the family of deceased.
Earlier, the body of Kuldeep Singh, wrapped in Tricolour, was brought to village by an Army vehicle today morning. An Army contingent also fired gun shots into the air amidst the sound of bugle.
Family members of the deceased, including his mother Mohinder Kaur (67), wife Manpreet Kaur (26), son Fatehdeep Singh (One-and-a-half-year-old) and others were present on the occasion. Amidst emotionally surcharged environment, his elder brother Ranjit Singh lit the pyre.
