Garhshankar, July 10
A case of gross negligence on the part of the Public Works Department (PWD) has come to the fore wherein it has been building a road connecting Hoshiarpur and Chandigarh amid heavy rainfall.
In the evening, as the matter came to the notice of the government, Principal Secretary Anurag Verma suspended SDE Tarsem Singh and Junior Engineers Vipan Kumar, Praveen Kumar and Jasvir Singh with immediate effect.
The PWD built the road connecting Nangal Khiladiya and Sherpur villages of the Mahilpur block of the Chabbewal constituency. Despite protest by locals, the PWD continued building the road. Meanwhile, a few locals posted a video of the activity on social media, which later went viral. In the video, locals are trying to stop the labourers and PWD staff from building the road.
AAP worker Gurvinder Singh said he asked the workers to stop, but they ignored. He said the road quality wasn’t maintained due to its construction in wrong weather and it would develop cracks soon.
Despite repeated attempts, Kamal Nain of the PWD couldn’t be contacted.
