Amritsar, June 18
Ex-MLA and SAD leader Amarpal Singh Bony Ajnala has approached the police for security, alleging that he got an extortion call from Bhinda, a Bishnoi gang member.
In his statement, Bony said he got a WhatsApp call on Friday from a person claiming to be Bhinda of the Bishnoi gang. He said the accused demanded Rs 2.5 lakh as “protection money” from him.
The caller told him to deposit the amount in an SBI account. Fearing for his and his family’s life, Bony urged the police commissioner to provide him security.
ACP Palwinder Singh said a case under Sections 387 and 506, IPC, had been registered against Bhinda while further probe was being carried out to ascertain the facts of the case.
Meanwhile, the Amritsar rural police have booked Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar for making an extortion call to a trader of Wadala Bhitewad village falling under Kamboh police station here. The grocery store owner got a call in which the caller identified himself as Goldy Brar and demanded Rs 5 lakh.
