Ropar, July 4

A large number of employees of various departments and pensioners held a demonstration and burnt an effigy of the state government for non-fulfilment of their demands in the Budget.

Union leaders of the Punjab Subordinate Services Federation and the PSEB Employees Federation (AITUC) said the government has betrayed the employees.

The protesters added that the government should have announced a minimum wage of Rs 26,000 per month. “The move to regularise 36,000 contract workers is a deception as there are more than two lakh contract workers in the state,” they said.

There was no mention of regularising the services of anganwadi, ASHA and mid-day meal workers in the Budget said the protesters.
