Gurlal Singh Pehalwan murder case: Given clean chit, Faridkot youth nabbed again

Faridkot, October 3

Two days after getting the custody of two youths of Delhi and Haryana in the murder case of Congress leader Gurlal Singh Pehalwan, the Faridkot police today nabbed a local youth, Harpreet Singh, in connection with the case.

He was produced before the duty magistrate and the court sentenced him to one-day police remand. Harpreet was rounded up seven months ago as well, but was released after being given a clean chit.

However, after questioning Amit alias Chhotu and Rajan Jatta from Delhi and Rajasthan, the police claimed that Harpreet, too, was involved in hatching the conspiracy to kill District Youth Congress president Pehalwan on February 18. Earlier, the Faridkot police had nominated Harpreet as an accused in the case after two inmates in a Haryana jail had named him and Kapil Pehalwan as the accused.

It is alleged that Pehalwan had beaten up Harpreet’s brother Pardeep in the public. While Pardeep left for abroad, Harpreet allegedly planned to kill Pehalwan to avenge his brother’s public insult. — TNS
