Claiming to be dealing in radioactive material, the “director” of a company, his wife and other accused allegedly offered it to a person at Rs 2,400 crore per inch. Among other things, the prospective buyer-complainant was allegedly told that the material was of a “Brigadier”.

If allegations in an FIR registered in the matter are to be believed, they even took Rs 10 crore from the complainant at different points in time for calling persons stated to be scientists from the Defence Research and Development Organization for carrying out inspection.

Justice Vikas Bahl of the Punjab and Haryana HC has now dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of one of the accused. The Bench was told that the FIR in the matter was registered on August 8, 2019, for cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy and other offences at the City police station in Nawanshahr.

Justice Bahl asserted the allegations in the FIR were “very serious and reflect a deep-rooted conspiracy” hatched by the accused, in which the petitioner and her husband played an active role and conspired to “fraudulently induce the complainant to believe that the accused were dealing in radioactive material and would be selling the same to the complainant and in the process had even taken Rs 10 crore from the complainant.”
