HC disposes of dera supporters’ bail application

Chandigarh, October 11

The State has told the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the custodial interrogation of Shakti Singh, stated to be Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda follower, and another petitioner was not required as they had already joined the probe in a sacrilege related case.

Taking note of the submission, a Bench disposed of their bail petition after observing that it had “actually been rendered infructuous”.

In his order, Justice Amol Rattan Singh asserted: “However, if the petitioners’ custodial interrogation is required at any stage hereinafter, in the context of the FIR in question, they would be given 10 days’ notice before arrest, duly shown to be served upon them. Naturally, if the complainant is aggrieved in any manner, of lack of proper probe, he would be always at liberty to avail of his remedy as per law.”

Shakti and another petitioner had moved the HC seeking direction to the arresting officer to release them on bail in the event of their arrest, in an FIR registered on June 2, 2015, at the Bajakhana police station for hurting religious sentiments and another offence under Section 295A and 380 of the IPC. — TNS
