Sangrur, February 16
The ineffectiveness of orders of senior authorities of the Local Government Department can be gauged from fact that 16 months after the order to maintain status quo, construction of many illegal buildings is still going on.
Records sought
On the directions of senior authorities, we inspected 14 buildings being constructed without the approval of building plans. We have sought records from the Sangrur Nagar Council. We will submit a detailed report to our seniors. — Avtar Singh, Engineer, Ahmedgarh NC
A team of the department conducted an inspection of illegal buildings on Thursday, but locals do not have any hope as earlier, a team of the vigilance wing of the department had inspected the same buildings but failed to stop the construction.
“On the directions of senior authorities, we have inspected 14 buildings being constructed without the approval of building plans. We have sought records from the Sangrur Nagar Council (NC). We will submit a detailed report to our seniors,” said Avtar Singh, municipal engineer of the Ahmedgarh NC.
As per sources, on September 11, 2019, during a meeting in Chandigarh, it had come to light that the construction of 14 buildings was going on in violation of building bylaws and master plan in the municipal limits of Sangrur. Senior authorities had directed the Sangrur NC authorities to prevent more construction of these illegal buildings and maintain the status quo.
“It’s all happening with the connivance of NC officials and politicians. The owners of these illegal buildings have been constructing their buildings at a fast pace after paying huge bribes to the officers concerned. We will start a protest for the demolition of these buildings,” said Avtar Ealwal, AAP
leader from Sangrur.
EO of Sangrur NC Ramesh Kumar said a special team of his department had inspected the illegal buildings and sought records from his office. “We have been trying to maintain status quo and also filed cases in
the court,” he said.
