Illegal Mining Case: Ex-MLA Joginder Pal sent to 2-day police custody

Pathankot, June 18

A local court has sent Bhoa ex-MLA Joginder Pal to two-day police remand even as the cops added Section 379, IPC, to the already registered FIR at the Taragarh police station.

The police had registered the FIR against five persons, including Pal and his wife Krishna, under Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals Act. Section 379 (theft) has been added after preliminary probe revealed that theformer legislator had been trespassing on a private person’s land for the purpose of committing unauthorised mining. The maximum punishment under Section 379 is three years, or fine, or both.

Taragarh SHO Shohrat Mann said the police had requested the court to give six-day police remand “keeping in view the wide ramifications of the case.”

Life has come full circle for Pal who started off as a small-time player in the stone and gravel business in Pathankot.
