Chandigarh, July 13
Lashing out at the Opposition for allegedly defaming the state with drug hauls, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today said the drug nexus had been broken within four months of the formation of its government.
AAP spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang said the state government has successfully managed to curtail flow of drugs into the state.
He said the police had arrested 676 smugglers after registering 559 FIRs under the NDPS Act in the past one week. The police had seized 57 kg of heroin, 17 kg of opium, 25 kg of ganja, 7 quintals of poppy husk, and 2.25 lakh intoxicanting pills, he said.
As many as 32 proclaimed offenders in the NDPS cases were arrested in the past one week, Kang said and added that the Punjab Police in a joint operation with the Gujarat ATS and the central agencies had seized 75 kg of heroin from a container at Mundra Port.
