At least 15 persons, including some relatives of the victim of the bike blast which took place in Jalalabad on September 15, are being interrogated regarding the incident.

“Some persons, including relatives on whose mobile phone calls were made by victim Balwinder Singh, a resident of Ferozepur district, were summoned for interrogation and let off after an inquiry,” said Palvinder Singh, DSP, Jalalabad, adding that no concrete information had been received from them.

Notably, Balwinder Singh (22), a resident of Joga Nihalwala village, was going to meet his cousin in Jalalabad town when a blast occurred in the motorcycle he was riding. As the state has been put on high alert after the Ajnala incident, the police are looking into the possibility of a terror angle.

Although the police are maintaining that the fuel tank of the bike caught fire resulting in the blast, information gathered by The Tribune revealed at least six investigating agencies, including the NIA, NSG, forensics team and Punjab Police explosion experts, had visited the site and trying to unearth the mystery of the high-density blast which shook the border town of Jalalabad.

A manhunt has been launched to nab the second suspect, identified as Sukha, who was following Balwinder Singh on another bike but escaped from the site after the blast took place.

Sources said the bike in which the blast took place was not having any number plate. The police have launched a drive to seize motorcycles moving without number plate or registration in the region.

DSP Palvinder Singh said blood samples of the victim had been taken and motorcycle parts and a mobile had been seized for examination. The other significant fact is that Balwinder Singh was allegedly having a tainted past as according to the DSP, he was involved in the smuggling of liquor and drugs.
