Locals irked over poor drainage

Muktsar: Irked over poor drainage system, residents of Model Town on Saturday blocked Muktsar-Kotkapura Road for half an hour. The protesters claimed that officials of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department were least concerned. Recently, a number of shopkeepers had also observed a bandh due to waterlogging. TNS

VDS scheme extended

Chandigarh: In a major relief to farmers, the state government has extended the date for Voluntary Disclosure Scheme (VDS) for enhancing load till September 15. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the decision has been taken to facilitate the farmers. He said his government had launched this VDS on June 10 for 45 days (till July 24) by slashing fee for load enhancement on tubewells from existing Rs 4,750 to Rs 2,500 per BHP. TNS

Museums shut for repair works

Ropar: Virasat-e-Khalsa at Anandpur Sahib, Dastaan-e-Shahadat at Chamkaur Sahib and Golden Temple plaza at Amritsar will remain closed for the visitors from July 24 to August 1 for maintenance works. The museums are closed in the last week of January and July. They will be reopened on August 2.
