Despite tall claims made by the AAP government to provide adequate staff in schools, the Education Department has transferred two teachers from Government Primary School, Hussainpura. With this, the responsibility to teach 71 students has come on a lone head teacher.
Local residents, along with students, announced that they would launch an indefinite protest if the transfer order of a woman teacher were not revoked.
Will make arrangements
The matter is in the knowledge of the higher authorities. The school should have three teachers. We will make arrangements as per the directions of senior officers. —Balwant Singh, Block primary education officer
On March 31, the then head teacher had retired and later Karmjit Singh and Manpreet Kaur also applied for transfer.
In the recent reshuffle, the government transferred the duo, leaving both seats vacant.
Head teacher Jasvir Singh said, “I joined the school two days ago. We are trying to get the transfer order of Manpreet revoked. Karmjit has already been relieved. If Manpreet also gets relieved from here, I will be the only one left to teach
71 students.”
Ranjit Singh, husband of sarpanch Parmjit Kaur, said, “We have met the MLA and senior officers to cancel Manpreet’s transfer. We are hopeful of a positive development. If the authorities fail to revoke the transfer, we will launch an agitation on Friday.”
Balwant Singh, Block Primary Education Officer, said, “The matter is in the knowledge of the higher authorities. The school should have three teachers. We will make arrangements as per the directions of senior officers.”
