A son allegedly paid a supari (contract killing) of his father after the latter threatened to transfer his land in name of some outsider. The body of 46-year-old Manjit Singh, a resident of nearby Salempur village, was found in the fields of Gaggon village on Thursday morning.

Chamkaur Sahib SHO Rupinder Singh said the police have arrested deceased’s son Ravinder Singh along with other accused identified as Arshpreet Singh, alias Happy, and Satwinder Singh of Ludhiana district.

The body of Manjit Singh with strangulation marks was found in the fields near a liquor vend. Ravinder Singh had told the police that his father was a patient of depression and had left the home on previous night without informing the family members.

The SHO said during police investigation, it was found that Manjit was an alcoholic and used to quarrel regularly at home and threatened his family members that he would transfer his 8 acres in the name of some outsider. Ravinder hatched a conspiracy to eliminate his father and struck a deal with Happy and Satwinder Singh for Rs 3 lakh to kill Manjit Singh. He has already paid Rs 1 lakh to both the killers, he said.

The accused allegedly befriended Manjit and consumed liquor with him. Later they strangulated him in a car and dumped the body in the fields. The police has also recovered a Swift car used in the crime, said the SHO.
