Mansa, July 9
Mild rain and poor drainage system threw life out of gear in Mansa city today.
Balkaran Singh Balli of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Sudhar Sabha said, “Nobody comes in ward number 27 for cleaning drains. In case they clean them, slush is left on the roadside. The streets in our area have been turned into garbage dumps. We have met the Deputy Commissioner and brought the matter to his notice on numerous occasions, but to no avail.”
“Rainwater gets accumulated even after mild rain. Contrary to the tall claims of officials concerned, ground situation tells a different story,” said Balli.
Gurlabh Singh Mahal of Sanvidhan Bachao Manch said, “Residents of most areas in the city face problems during monsoon. Commuters and pedestrians have to wade through knee-deep water. Area near court complex, railway crossing, 33-ft road, teacher colony and the Excise Department gets flooded.”
Mansa Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh said, “We have got the drains cleaned. Residents of the city won’t face any difficulty. I will also get the status of garbage lifting checked and take action if required.”
