Sangrur: Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema launched ‘Mera Ghar Mere Naam’ scheme in Dirba subdivision by starting land mapping with the use of a drone at Khetla village. “The drone survey has begun for marking the houses inside the ‘Laal Lakir’ in the villages of Dirba subdivision and after mapping, door-to-door survey will be conducted, on the basis of which the maps would be drawn,” said Cheema. Campaign against EVMs
Mansa: The Bharat Mukti Morcha (Punjab unit) and the Bahujan Mukti Party will start an awareness campaign against the use of EVMs in villages of Mansa district from August 1. Darshan Singh Mansa, president of Bharat Mukti Morcha, said: “Political parties have been forming government by tampering with EVM machines.” Jaswant Singh, president of Bahujan Mukti Party, said: “During the awareness campaign, we will be sensitising people regarding the misuse of EVMs and exhort them to oppose its use for conducting of elections.” TNS
2 of Lawrence-Goldy gang held
Abohar: The police on Saturday nabbed two suspected members of Lawrence-Goldy gang, who had gone to Sriganganagar to collect a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from a tractor agency owner Vinod Khurana after threatening to kill him by making phone calls on behalf of the gangsters. SP Anand Sharma said one person, who allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh from Khurana, was called to collect money. The police laid the trap and arrested two persons, while the third managed to escape. OC
