More rain likely, farmers worried

Muktsar, July 21

As fields in a large number of villages are still waterlogged, the forecast of more rain has worried the farmers in Muktsar district. The rain on July 15 and 16 has caused widespread damage to the crops, building and roads.

Jaswinder Singh, a farmer, said, “Weathermen have predicted heavy rain. We are worried that the fields are already inundated and now the rainwater will inundate the residential areas too.”

“We appeal to the authorities concerned to speed up the work of draining out rainwater,” said Harwinder Singh. Some residents of Haraj village said the district administration had turned a blind eye towards them.
