MLAs and MPs close to Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh are meeting ahead of the CLP meeting with several ministers expressing regret at the “way the CM is being humiliated”.

“This is certainly not the way. This constant refrain that the CM didn’t deliver makes no sense because the delivery of party manifesto promises is the collective work of the cabinet,” said a Punjab Congress leader.

A Punjab minister said the fight between the PPCC chief and the CM had gone too far.

“We want to discuss with the CM the next course of action and are meeting him after which we will have some clarity on what to do,” a senior minister said.

Meanwhile, sources told the Tribune that names of three probables as Amarinder’s replacement had cropped up, all of them non-MLAs. They are former state Congress chief Sunil Jakhar, Ludhiana MP Ravneet Bittu and former state chief Partap Bajwa. Jakhar is said to be the frontrunner.
