Muktsar, September 23
With Muktsar registering an increase in dengue cases, the district administration has now turned to local residents for help in containing the spread.
As many as 328 cases have been reported to date this year in the district of which a maximum of 232 were detected in September alone.
With 170 cases (135 reported in September), Malout town is the worst-hit, followed by Gidderbaha town (68) and Muktsar town (9).
ADC (General) Rajdeep Kaur said: “The number of cases is higher than the last year. The health department has deployed 70 teams under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme to detect and destroy dengue larvae. The cases are on the rise and without public support it is difficult to control the situation.” Dr Seema Goyal, district epidemiologist, has penned a poem to spread awareness among public, which is recited by a little girl of a private school. — TNS
