Abohar: The police have arrested a 60-year-old man for killing Bhindo Bai of Chak 23-Mod village in Sriganganagar. The body of the victim was found at a dumping site. The suspect has been identified as Gurmeet Singh of Chak 10-BB village. Another suspect, Raju of Dhaba Jhalar village, is also being questioned. Bhindo used to run a marriage bureau and was asked by Raju to meet Gurmeet on July 6. Gurmeet reportedly consumed alcohol and had an argument with Bhindo. He allegedly strangulated her and threw her body at the dumpyard in Rattewala village. OC

NABARD’s Foundation Day

Chandigarh: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) celebrated its 41st Foundation Day. Raghunath B, CGM, NABARD, spoke about the journey of the NABARD in rural areas. He told that the NABARD has supported infrastructure projects to the tune of Rs 770 crore last fiscal. He said a project of Rs 150 crore had been sanctioned for promoting micro irrigation to tackle the issue of depleting groundwater. TNS

2 held for kidnapping youth

Abohar: The police have arrested a woman and one of her accomplices for kidnapping and robbing Harman Singh, a resident of Abohar, of Rs 1.5 lakh. IO Raj Kumar said Mamta Jasmine and Harshpreet Singh of Chak 1-BLM have been held. The miscreants reportedly called Harman on the pretext of a deal at Patroda village on July 5. A car overtook them and its occupants kidnapped him. Later, the vehicle rammed into a tree on the Raisinghnagar-Gajsinghpur Road. OC

80 gm of heroin seized

Abohar: The police have nabbed two drug peddlers and seized 80 gm of heroin from their possession. Ramesh Singh of Suratpura was held with 70-gm heroin near Rajgarh bypass. Investigating officer Ranveer Sai said the accused was released on bail around four months ago in a murder case. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him. OC

Pak national caught

Abohar: The BSF caught a Pakistani national who crossed the Zero Line near Khakha village on Abohar-Hindumalkot Road on Sunday. Sriganganagar SP Anand Sharma said the BSF jawans were patrolling when they saw a person coming from the Pakistan side. The intruder was warned but he headed towards the fencing. The jawans caught him and handed him over to the police. OC

Sunam MC gets fire tenders

Sunam: Housing and Urban Development Minister Aman Arora on Sunday handed over the keys of two new fire tenders to Sunam Nagar Council officers. “Since my election as the Sunam MLA in 2017, I have been trying for new fire tenders for my segment,” he said. He added the new fire tenders were equipped with high-tech devices.
