Patiala, July 16

Navjot Sidhu, cricketer-turned-politician and a Congress leader, lodged in Patiala Central Jail, is now complaining about an acute pain in his knee joints.

Following the complaints, orthopaedic surgeon had to examine Sidhu inside the jail premises. Sidhu has been lodged in Patiala Central Jail — in a 34-year-old road rage case — to serve his one-year rigorous jail term.

The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) former president is unable to complete his routine activities — owing to his joint pain.

It has been learned that Sidhu has to sleep on the ground, and, therefore, find it difficult to frequently get up from the ground — given his body weight, around 123 Kilograms, and height over 6 feet.

Sidhu’s toilet seat is also said to be low for his height and weight. Doctor, after the examination, is appeared to have suggested Sidhu to lose his weight. Doctors have further advised Sidhu to do the knee strengthening exercises — quadriceps and hamstring exercises. Sidhu is also directed not to fold knees more than 90 degrees.

Sidhu has been advised to sleep on bed and not on floor. It has been learned that the team of doctors, led by Orthopaedic surgeon, has warned Sidhu that he would develop pain further in his joints if remedial measures are not taken immediately.

Doctors have prescribed pain killer, joint lubricating drugs to Sidhu. Topical and oral analgesic medicines have also been prescribed to Sidhu.

Following the doctor’s advice, jail authorities have already provided wooden cot to Sidhu.
