Sangrur, June 26
Newly-elected Member of Parliament (MP) from Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency, Simranjit Singh Mann, has tested positive for Covid-19. After receiving his report, Sangrur health department authorities referred him to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. Family members of Mann said he was fine, but they were following the Covid protocol to prevent any complications.
“He had some minor health problems and today we have received his Covid positive report. Since he is 77 years old, we do not want to take any chance and are following all Covid guidelines. We also request others, who have come in contact of Mann Sahib, to get tested to prevent the spread of Covid,” said Emaan Singh Mann, son of Sangrur MP.
In high stake battle of Sangrur Lok Sabha bypoll, Simranjit Singh Mann had defeated ruling AAP’s candidate Gurmail Singh, the result of which were declared on June 26.
SAD (Amritsar) leaders said they suspect that Mann had come in contact of some Covid positive person during his campaigning and result declaration day as he was surrounded by hundreds of supporters.
Sangrur Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr Baljit Singh informed that Mann was out of danger and doing fine. “But due to his old age, we have referred him to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala,” said the SMO.
