Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi today announced that government employees would not be given extension in service after attaining 58 years of age. The move will enable youth to get government jobs.
Addressing a public gathering at a state-level function here to hand over debt relief certificates to farm labourers and landless farmers, besides launching a pilot project of using drone technology to digitally map rural properties within the Chamkaur Sahib Assembly segment under Mission Lal Lakir, the CM said the government had already decided to waive loans amounting to Rs 520 crore of 2.85 lakh farm labourers and landless farmers with respect to the principal amount against their cooperative loans as on July 31, 2017, and the interest on the amount till March 6, 2019.
He further announced a slew of development projects for the region, including a bridge at a cost of Rs 114 crore over the Sutlej, connecting Bela-Paniali road to National Highway 344-A, two sports stadia at Raipur and Tripari it is, besides upgrade of the Civil Hospital at Chamkaur Sahib.
Later, talking to mediapersons, Channi claimed the name of Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) was yet to be finalised. His reaction came after fresh objections were raised by PCC chief Navjot Sidhu, who recently quit his post over the appointment of DGP Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota and Advocate General APS Deol.
He said after the tenure of former DGP Dinkar Gupta got over, the names of all senior police officials who had completed 30 years of service were sent to the Centre as per the rules. “The Centre will pick three names from the list of officers who had completed 30 years of service. From these, the name of the new DGP will be finalised, that too after due consultations with the PCC chief as well as ministers and MLAs,” said the CM.
