The police have booked Sonu Pehlwan, a gangster from Ludhiana, and around 15 of his accomplices for allegedly threatening to eliminate the husband of a Congress candidate in the Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib Municipal Council elections.
As per the FIR lodged with the Fatehgarh Sahib police station under Sections 452 (trespass), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly) of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act, Gurjit Singh, husband of Congress candidate from ward No. 17 Reeta Rani, claimed around 15 unidentified men surrounded him as he came out of his house in Sirhind city for campaigning.
One of the suspects, Sonu Pehlwan, allegedly pulled out a weapon and threatened to teach him a lesson for contesting on a Congress ticket. Apprehending threat to life, the complainant rushed back into the house and was followed by the suspects, who tried to pry open the door and continued to threaten him. Gurjit said he had to call off campaigning in view of the threat. — OC
