Faridkot, October 25
The unprecedented move of the state government to conduct an entrance test for the second time to fill around 4,800 vacant seats in 103 nursing colleges, which are facing closure, on Sunday failed to find “eligible” students.
240 made cut earlier
- Facing closure, many nursing colleges had approached the government, demanding the second entrance test
- Students need to score minimum 50% marks to qualify for the admission. Only 240 candidates qualified the first test on Aug 29
In the entrance test conducted by the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), only 220 of the 2,730 candidates, who took the test, qualified for the admission. Earlier, the BFUHS had conducted the entrance test for admission in BSc nursing course on August 29 and only 240 candidates qualified that time.
Facing closure, many nursing colleges in the state had approached the state government, demanding to conduct the entrance test for the second time and that, too, with easy question paper, so that maximum number of students could qualify by scoring minimum 50 per cent marks, the condition mandated by the Indian Nursing Council. In the second test conducted on Sunday, 2,730 candidates had appeared against 3,878 applications.
Sources in BFUHS said as a large number of students were interested in going abroad after Class XII on a study visa, not only the nursing colleges but all professional and academic colleges in the state were facing problems in filling vacant seats. — TNS
