Congress’ Moga MLA Harjot Kamal will soon appear in a new avatar as an actor in a 13-episode TV serial ‘Dharti Da Putt’, being produced by Jagdev Singh Mann, the shooting of which is under way in Moga district.
However, the move has invited the Opposition’s ire. Spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Navdeep Singh Sangha alleged the Congress MLA was indulging in a publicity stunt to attract local populace as the voters were turning away from the Congress in the run up to the Assembly elections. “The popularity graph of Harjot Kamal has gone down after his wife lost the local MC elections recently,” he said.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has also scoffed at the MLA over his “publicity stunt”. “Instead of serving the people and helping them in the hard times of the Covid pandemic, the MLA, who is a doctor by profession, has kept himself busy in shooting a TV serial for vested political interests,” said Barjinder Singh Brar, a youth Akali leader.
The MLA however said his criticism by the Opposition was uncalled for as he had tried to give a message of social transformation among the rural people. “The TV series appeals to the youth to stop feeling proud of showcasing luxury vehicles and state-of-the-art weapons. Instead, they must take pride in their land and start farming,” he claimed.
