Panel seeks report over ‘assault’ on Dalit family in Jalalabad

The National Scheduled Caste Commission has sought a reply from the Chief Secretary and DGP over the alleged assault on a Dalit family after tying them to a tree at Ghangan Khurd village in Jalalabad subdivision of Fazilka district.

Taking cognisance of the incident, commission chairman Vijay Sampla, in a statement today, said a notice had been issued to both officials, besides the Ferozepur Range IGP, SSP and DC directing them to present an action taken report in this regard.

On August 27, some persons had allegedly tied a minor girl and her parents to a tree before assaulting them and tearing off their clothes. The suspects shot a video of the incident and uploaded it on the social media.

SSP Deepak Hilori said a case had been registered against seven persons under various Sections of the IPC and would be nabbed soon. A team led by a DSP-rank official had examined the site and the guilty would not be spared, he added. — TNS
