Pathak, Chadha, Harbhajan among 5 elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Punjab

Chandigarh, March 24

On the last day of withdrawing nomination papers for election to five Rajya Sabha seats from Punjab on Thursday, no candidate withdrew his nomination paper. Thus, all the five candidates, who had filed nominations for the biennial election, have been declared unopposed winners.

Giving details, Returning Officer-cum-Secretary Punjab Vidhan Sabha Surinder Pal said that the biennial election process for the Rajya Sabha Punjab 2022 was being carried out under the supervision of Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Dr. S. Karuna Raju, who had been appointed Observer by the Election Commission of India.

Pal said that as no candidate withdrew his nomination paper on the last day till 3 pm, Sandeep Kumar Pathak and Raghav Chadha (first cycle), Harbhajan Singh, Ashok Mittal and Sanjeev Arora (second cycle) were declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from the five seats in Punjab. A report in this regard has been sent to the Election Commission of India, he added.
