Post on fuel station closure fake: ADGP

Chandigarh, January 25

The Cyber Crime Cell of Punjab Police today started proceedings to take legal action against rumour mongers spreading fake news about closure of petrol stations across the state to thwart farmers’ tractor rally.

Terming the post fake, Additional Director General of Police, Public Relations and New Age Media, Amardeep Singh Rai said the state government had never issued any notice to close petrol stations. He warned of stern action against those spreading false information.

The ADGP said notices were being sent to Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms to remove the post, which was unauthorised. “The Cyber Crime Cell is tracing the rumour mongers who made this post viral on social media,” said the ADGP. — TNS
