There are seven sanctioned posts of Deputy Registrar in this division, but two posts are vacant, while there are 30 sanctioned posts of Assistant Registrar, but 13 are vacant. Similarly, the division has 292 sanctioned posts of inspector, but 132 posts are vacant, createing problems for area farmers.

“Cooperative societies are directly connected with farmers as these are responsible for the supply of many essential items. However, the lack of the required staff has created problems. The AAP government should look into the matter as previous governments have failed to take the required action,” said Shaminder Singh, a farmer from Sangrur.

Cooperative inspectors supervise the working of various societies under their jurisdiction. Since they work as government nominees in cooperative societies, they prevent any violation of norms in society by members. If any member tries to violate the norms, the inspector gives a dissenting note and brings it to the notice of his seniors. The Assistant Registrars supervise the working inspectors at the subdivision level, while the Deputy Registrars are responsible for all districts.

Cooperation Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the posts were lying vacant. He blamed previous governments for their failure to take the steps to strengthen the workforce of the department.

“We have collected all details of vacant posts and have started the recruitment process,” said Cheema.
