Sangrur, January 1
Farmers under the banner of BKU (Ugrahan) have decided to intensify their stir against the state government. They have been sitting in front of DC offices in various districts of Punjab, demanding action over their demands.
“Last year, we protested at the Delhi border against the central farm laws, and now we are demonstrating in front of DC offices against the state government. Both central and state governments are the same as they are unwilling to take steps for the welfare of farmers despite tall claims,” said Jasvir Singh, a farmer from Bhawanigarh.
Their main demands include Rs 17,000 per acre aid to farmers who have suffered crop loss and its 10 per cent payment to labourers, and Rs 360 per quintal guarantee on sugarcane from each sugar mill. — TNS
